Looking Back on Madison Bumgarner
The Giants may have damaged his arm by having him pitch so much, but it was probably worth it.
Madison Bumgarner turned 35-years-old last month and has not thrown a pitch in the big leagues since April of 2023. Barring an extraordinary comeback, his career has ended.
Bumgarner’s career can be neatly divided into two parts, which collectively raise one big question. From 2009-19, he pitched for the San Francisco Giants. Over the course of those 11 seasons, Bumgarner went 119-92 with an ERA+ of 120 while striking out 1,794 batters. His peak was 2013-16 when he was an All-Star and finished in the top ten in Cy Young Award voting every year.
