Proxy wars in Ukraine in Gaza raise confounding foreign policy and domestic politics challenges for Joe Biden.
The US currently finds itself in the unusual and unenviable position of being involved in two proxy wars on two different continents. Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began almost two years ago. There are many ways to understand that conflict, beginning with it being an act of extraordinary aggression and brutality by Russia and its President Vladimir Putin. However, it is also increasingly clear that to a significant extent, that conflict is a proxy war between China and the US.
